How to Get Over Body Image Fears and Do That Boudoir Shoot

Everyone regardless of age, gender, body type or fitness level feels like they can improve something about their body. When it comes to a boudoir shoot, they're often just not feeling "camera ready", trying to lose those last 10 pounds or just feel like they're never going to get to the point where they want to be photographed.

I had actually done a dozen boudoir shoots behind the camera before my first boudoir shoot as the client. I could definitely relate to those feelings that my clients tell me about, I was indeed very nervous and self conscious. I wasn't feeling like I was ready at the time either, but I didn't want to let fear hold me back from having a fun, memorable experience.

Let's talk through this, and see if you're more ready for a boudoir shoot than you thought!

1. What is a boudoir shoot and how does it work?

A boudoir shoot is a session where you get photographed in lingerie in my studio that has multiple sets to resemble a woman's bedroom. It's often done as a gift for a romantic partner, and about celebrating the beautiful, sensual side of their relationship together. More often than not though, my clients actually do the shoot for themselves! We start by putting you in the hairstyling and makeup chair and get you glammed up (about an hour). We'll have time to get to know each other and talk about our mutual vision for the shoot. Then we do the shoot where I walk you through everything and show you how to pose. When we finish we'll go through the images and select the ones you want to purchase. There may be some light retouching required which I will start on immediately. Days later your prints and other products will arrive at your home!

2. How to prepare for your shoot.

Use my lingerie shopping guide and come with some outfits you feel comfortable with! Make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before. Come with clean, dried hair and no makeup. Hydrate! Moisturize!

3. How to feel confident in front of the camera.

I often hear comments that my clients don't like certain body parts, but I can assure you the camera absolutely loves them! With posing, lighting and the magic I can apply, you'll feel and look great. Remind yourself that you're working with a professional!
