Are You More Happy if You Show Gratitude?
One of the most important factors to our happiness is gratitude. It has been said that gratitude increases well-being, satisfaction with life and optimism. This isn't just a bunch of stuff you can read on social media; there's academic research too!
In one study, researchers discovered how grateful people are more likely to experience higher levels of positive emotions like joy, interest and enthusiasm than those who aren't as grateful. The study also revealed that people who led more grateful lives were less bothered by things like pain and social rejection. They reported higher levels of happiness, self-esteem and optimism.
In another study, researchers found that people who have a grateful disposition are less likely to be affected by anxiety or depression and they even feel more connected to others.
Yet another study found that when we're feeling happy or satisfied with something in our life, gratitude actually amplifies these feelings. So if you're looking to enhance your general well-being, it might be a good idea to show some appreciation for the little things around you! Gratitude is one of those things you'll hear over and over again when it comes to how we can live happier lives!
So go ahead and say "thank you" to someone today - even if they've done something small (like opening the door) because all those moments add up into an overall sense of appreciation for what's happening in your life right now.
Just think about how much better everything would be if we all were just a little bit more grateful for it. It has been said that gratitude increases well-being, satisfaction with life and optimism. How about you, has this been your experience as well?
Gratitude may not always come naturally. I've found that in periods of my life where I was giving more of my time and resources to others, the "thank yous" came much more naturally. Also, when I was a struggling college student and early on in my career when finances were tight, I was much more conscious of the little things. When I had less, I was that much more grateful for the things I did receive.
Gratitude is important to our happiness. Showing some gratitude will help us feel better and appreciate the things in life that are going well. Try saying "thank you!" today even if someone has done something small because these moments add up into an overall sense of appreciation for what's happening right now. Just think how much better everything would be if we all did this!
The conclusion? Showing gratitude makes the world a happier place!
