Untangle the Knot and Get Unstuck: How to Find Your Ambition Again
Do you ever feel like your ambition has diminished? Maybe you've let life get in the way and now you're stuck. Many of us feel like this after a long period with the pandemic casting a dark cloud over everything! You know that there is more out there for you, but how do you find your motivation again? Well, this blog post will discuss a few ways to help untangle the knot of excuses or obstacles and get you unstuck!
One simple issue we've had over this last year is that there has been a constant message that we CAN'T or SHOULD NOT do certain things in the name of preventing the spread of the Coronavirus. Make no mistake, those were a good thing--I hope we can all acknowledge the need for occasional sacrifices for the greater good of humanity. I would also never argue against those who have special medical concerns or just feel safer taking extra precautions.
However, most of the steps we've taken are absolutely in conflict with actions we need to take to better ourselves. We've distanced ourselves from human contact and we've shut ourselves in our homes. We hid our faces behind masks which limited the amount of connection we made when we were out and about.
We need to remain safe, but also return to engaging with humans! We need to make an effort to maintain friendships. We need to limit our screen time and our dependence on social media. We need to make time for exercise and physical activity.
The simple reality is we are meant to live in community with other humans, not cocooned away from them! We don't have the option of living a life that is devoid of all human contact. And by removing ourselves from society as much as possible, we've diminished our sense of community. We need to have a reason to better our world. We need to find our ambition.
Everyone can also benefit from some personal time too, as it will allow us to be more creative and productive during the rest of the day! Nevertheless, we are social animals who are meant to participate in life, not hide away from it.
What is the best way to find your ambition? First, you have to make time. If we are spending all our free time on social media instead of participating in life-giving activities like exercise and physical activity, then it's no wonder that our sense of purpose has diminished! We need ample opportunities to spend quality time with friends and family, get creative with hobbies and crafts, or explore new interests.
In order to find your ambition again, it's important to identify what you love doing: What gives you a sense of purpose? Make lists of things that interest you so when the time is right you'll know exactly where to go! It can take some experimentation; but what better time that now to try some new activities or career moves now that we're rebuilding?
We need to make new goals. With the world opening up and possibilities for work and travel opening up, we need to pick up where we left off. Indeed, we should try and redouble our efforts to kickstart dormant ambitions.
A simple step you can do right now is this: write down three goals that will help you move forward in finding your ambition. Display these written goals in a place you will see them every day at least. Bathroom mirror, taped to a work desk or monitor, somewhere like that.
It's time for us all to rediscover our energy and get our lives moving forward again after a long pause!
