Are Pickup Lines Still a Thing? It's 2021

Whether you're meeting someone for the first time and want to break the ice, or you're just looking to have a little fun, it's always good to have a few pick up lines in your back pocket. Once upon a time I was a single lady and was hoping to attract more pickup lines my way. Alas those days are in the rear view mirror--except occasionally at the gym, school drop off, restaurants, while shopping for clothing, at the bookstore, at the beach with my children etc etc.
I have been using pickup lines on my instagram feed as captions to the photos I post because I couldn't find anything else to write one day and just threw in a dumb line I'd heard before. However it's now my thing. I just have endless fun coming up with these or borrowing really clever ones I find online.
The best pick up lines are ones that you can use for a variety of different situations or settings. The most basic line is "Hi, I'm [insert your name], what's yours?" It might sound too basic to some people and if it doesn't work on someone there's not much else to do but move on.
Pick up lines can simultaneously be cheesy, funny or extremely forward, but they are a way of starting conversations with people we don't know well. Though I'm happily married I just find pick up lines endlessly entertaining.
Like I mentioned above, pickup lines are still used in 2021. I don't care how sweaty and grungy I get at the gym, nothing can stop an elderly male from attempting to strike up a conversation with me. I think most women feel the same as me. I just don't want to hear it when I'm clearly mission driven.

The oft-forgotten skill associated with a pick-up line is the follow up. Remember that you have to capitalize on the laugh or the surprise you earned from the pickup line. Time to jump in with an introduction at the very minimum. A follow up that shows charm or charisma is even better.
