Sexy Is Not a Size — My Chat on the Feminine Alchemy Podcast
Boudoir Isn’t About Perfect Bodies — It’s About Owning Your Power
Have you ever thought about booking a boudoir photoshoot… and then immediately talked yourself out of it? Maybe you’ve told yourself you’re not thin enough, confident enough, or “sexy” enough to step in front of the camera. If so, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly what we explored on a powerful episode of the Feminine Alchemy podcast with hosts Kayelee, Jaye Anne, and Julie.
We dove into the truth that sexy is not a size — it’s a vibe. And more importantly, boudoir isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about reclaiming your story, redefining your relationship with your body, and celebrating the woman you already are.
Nervous. Excited. Surprised.
When women walk into my studio for the first time, the emotional temperature is almost always the same: nervous, sometimes even terrified. That’s totally normal — stepping into a boudoir session is stepping into a version of yourself you might not be used to prioritizing.
But something shifts. That fear turns into joy. The moment they see the very first image on the back of the camera, the reaction is nearly universal: “Wait… that’s really me?”
That’s the power of boudoir — it reflects back a version of yourself you might have forgotten existed.
Redefining Your Relationship With Your Body
A lot of people think boudoir is about “reclaiming” your body — and that’s part of it — but the deeper transformation is about redefining your relationship with your body.
It’s not about seeing yourself as an object to fix. It’s about seeing your body as something to honor and celebrate. Many women start their session hating a certain part of themselves… and end up loving the photos that highlight that very thing.
Empowerment, Not the Male Gaze
One of the most important parts of my work is creating a space that’s designed for the woman herself, not for an external viewer. From the poses to the lighting to the atmosphere — everything is built around how YOU feel, not how YOU ARE perceived.
Sometimes a partner assumes that boudoir photos are for them. And while sharing them can absolutely be a beautiful choice, the real transformation happens when a woman sees herself with new eyes. Empowerment is not about who’s watching — it’s about who’s finally seeing herself.
Challenging Beauty Standards — Not Reinforcing Them
Boudoir photography has the potential to either reinforce narrow beauty ideals or completely rewrite them. In my studio, we choose the latter.
I photograph women of all ages, body types, and backgrounds — without asking anyone to shrink, diet, or change to “look the part.” Boudoir is about showing you that you’re already enough, already worthy, and already beautiful — exactly as you are.
“I’m Not Photogenic Enough” — And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves
If you’ve ever told yourself that you’re “not photogenic,” I want you to know this: you don’t need to be anything other than yourself to be worthy of being seen.
Photogenic isn’t about perfect angles or symmetry. It’s about presence, emotion, and allowing yourself to be visible. And when you let yourself be seen, it doesn’t just change your photos — it changes how you show up in your relationships, how you connect with others, and how you move through the world.
The Best Time to Book a Boudoir Photoshoot
One of the most common questions I get is, “When is the right time to do a boudoir session?” And my answer is always the same: anytime.
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, navigating a big life change, or simply ready to embrace your body as it is, there’s no “perfect” time to do this for yourself. The moment you feel the pull to celebrate your feminine power — that’s the time.
