Ask a Boudoir Photographer: "I want to do a boudoir session, but I don't have the money right now!"
What If You Want a Boudoir Session But Don’t Have the Extra Money?
Question:
“Hi Chicago Boudoir, I have a question. I’ve been thinking about doing a boudoir photoshoot for a while because I love the idea of celebrating myself and doing something empowering. The only problem is that I just don’t have the extra money for something like this right now. Do most women wait until they can afford it, or is there another way to make it work?”
Answer from Chicago Boudoir:
Wanting to book a boudoir photography session in Chicago but feeling like the timing isn’t right financially is one of the most common concerns we hear at Chicago Boudoir Photography. Life has a way of filling up our budgets with practical things first. Rent or mortgage, groceries, kids’ activities, travel, bills, and everyday expenses tend to come before anything that feels like a treat for yourself.
Because of that, many women push the idea of boudoir further and further into the future.
They tell themselves they’ll do it when things settle down, when finances feel easier, or when life feels a little less busy.
But the reality is that life rarely gets less busy. And sometimes the things we keep putting off are the experiences that end up meaning the most.
You’re Not the Only One Who Feels This Way
Many women tell us they thought about doing a boudoir session for months, sometimes even years, before finally reaching out.
Often the hesitation isn’t about whether they want the experience. It’s simply about deciding whether it’s okay to spend money on something that’s just for them.
Women are often very comfortable investing in other people. We buy gifts, support our families, pay for activities, and take care of everyone around us.
But when it comes to doing something meaningful for ourselves, it can suddenly feel harder to justify.
Investing in Yourself Is Not a Bad Thing
It’s easy to think of boudoir as something indulgent, but for many women the experience becomes much more meaningful than they expected.
A boudoir session can be a chance to reconnect with yourself, step outside your normal routine, and see yourself from a completely new perspective.
Many women say the confidence boost they felt after their session stayed with them long after the photos were taken.

Planning Ahead Makes It Much Easier
Another thing that surprises many women is that boudoir sessions don’t have to happen immediately.
Most boudoir sessions are scheduled weeks or even months in advance. Planning ahead gives you time to prepare, choose outfits, and spread out the investment in a way that feels manageable.
Some women treat it like they would a vacation or special event. They plan ahead, set aside a little at a time, and turn the experience into something they look forward to.
The Experience Is About More Than the Photos
While the photos are beautiful keepsakes, many women say the experience itself is what made the biggest impact.
Having professional hair and makeup done, spending time in a beautiful private studio, and being guided through a photoshoot where the focus is entirely on you can feel incredibly uplifting.
For a few hours, you get to step away from responsibilities and simply enjoy the moment.
Many women walk into their session feeling a little nervous and leave feeling confident, proud, and energized! We hear this from women all across Chicago and the North Shore, from busy moms and professionals to brides-to-be and women simply wanting to reconnect with themselves again. Many Women Are Glad They Finally Did It
It’s very common for women to say they almost didn’t book their session.
Sometimes they waited because they were nervous. Sometimes they waited because life felt too busy. And sometimes they waited because they weren’t sure if they should spend the money on themselves.
Afterward, many say the same thing: they’re glad they stopped waiting, and LOVE seeing their entire transformation.
Not just because of the photos, but because the experience helped them reconnect with their confidence in a way they didn’t expect.
Boudoir Photography Payment Plans & Flexible Financing Options
Another thing many women are surprised to learn is that boudoir photography sessions at Chicago Boudoir Photography do not always have to be paid all at once. We offer flexible payment plans so you can spread the investment out over time. This allows many women to plan their session in a way that fits comfortably within their budget while still enjoying the full boudoir experience when the time comes.

Brittney’s Story: “I Didn’t Really Have the Money… But I Decided to Do It Anyway”
For a long time I had wanted to do a boudoir photoshoot.
I loved the idea of the experience and how confident the women looked in the photos. But every time I thought about booking, I would look at my budget and immediately talk myself out of it.
Life is expensive. Between work, bills, groceries, and everything else that pops up, it always felt like there was a more responsible place for my money to go.
So I kept telling myself, Maybe someday.
But one night I realized something.
I had been saying “someday” for almost three years.
And if I was honest with myself, there was always going to be another bill, another expense, another reason to wait. Life never really pauses and says, “Okay, now is the perfect time.”
Around that time I saw that Chicago Boudoir offered payment plans, so I decided to reach out and ask about it.
That conversation changed everything.
Instead of having to pay for everything all at once, Liz explained that I could spread the cost out over time. Suddenly the whole idea felt much more manageable.
I remember thinking, Okay… maybe this actually is possible.
So I decided to go for it.
The funny thing is, once I booked the session and put the date on my calendar, it became something I was really excited about. I started looking forward to it instead of worrying about it.
The day of the shoot was honestly incredible. I had my hair and makeup done, Liz guided me through every pose, and the whole experience felt fun and empowering.
For a few hours I wasn’t thinking about bills or responsibilities. I was just enjoying the moment.
When I saw the photos later, I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were. But more than that, I felt proud of myself for actually doing it.
Getting on the payment plan made the whole thing possible for me, and it ended up working out perfectly.
Looking back, I’m really glad I didn’t keep waiting for some “perfect financial moment.”
Sometimes you just have to seize the opportunity when it feels right.
And I’m so glad I did.
