Ask a Boudoir Photographer: "Why is boudoir photography so expensive in Chicago?"

Why Is Boudoir Photography So Expensive in Chicago?

Question:

“Hi Chicago Boudoir, I have a question. I’ve been researching boudoir photographers in Chicago because I would love to do a photoshoot someday. But I noticed that boudoir sessions seem pretty expensive compared to other types of photography. I’m just curious why boudoir photography costs what it does. Is there something different about these sessions?”

Answer from Chicago Boudoir:

If you have been looking into boudoir photography, you may have noticed that sessions can be a significant investment. Many women looking for a boudoir photographer in Chicago ask the same question: why is boudoir photography so expensive? Some people start looking into a boudoir photoshoot and think, “This is more expensive than I thought!” And honestly? I get it!

The truth is that you are not simply paying for photos. A boudoir session is an experience that is built on years of skill, guidance, and understanding how to photograph women in a way that feels empowering and beautiful.

Boudoir Photography Is Built on Experience

Anyone can buy a camera. What truly creates stunning boudoir images is experience.

Over the years I have photographed thousands of women of many ages, body types, and comfort levels. Through that experience I have learned how to use lighting, angles, and subtle posing techniques to create images that highlight your favorite features and flatter your natural shape.

When you book a boudoir photography session, you are benefiting from years of practice, education, and real women’s experience that helps ensure you look and feel incredible in your photos.

You Are Guided Through Every Step

One of the most common concerns women have before their boudoir photography session is not knowing how to pose. Most women who come into my Chicago boudoir studio have never done anything like this before. My job is to guide you through every pose and every expression so you never feel awkward or unsure and can simply relax and enjoy the experience. You do not need to know how to pose! I guide you through the entire process.

Creating a Comfortable Boudoir Experience

An intimate boudoir session can feel vulnerable, especially if it is your first time doing something like this.

An experienced boudoir photographer knows how to create a comfortable and supportive environment where women feel safe, respected, and confident. Many women arrive feeling nervous, but as the session goes on they begin to relax, laugh, and truly enjoy the experience.

Seeing that shift in confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of being a boudoir photographer.

Boudoir Is More Than Just Photos

Many women say the most memorable part of their boudoir session was not just the images. It was how the experience made them feel. Confident. Empowered. Proud of themselves.

A luxury boudoir experience is about much more than taking beautiful photos. It is about giving women the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, celebrate themselves, and see their beauty through a new perspective.

If you have been considering booking a boudoir photography session in Chicago, know that the experience is designed to leave you feeling confident, empowered, and proud of the woman you are today.

Maria’s Story: “I Didn’t Realize What Went Into Boudoir Until I Did It”

Woman's testimonial about her experience at the Chicago Boudoir Photography studio

When I first started looking into boudoir photoshoots, I’ll be honest… I was a little surprised by the price.

I had seen the photos online and thought they looked beautiful, but when I started researching studios I remember thinking, Oh wow, this is more than I expected.

At first I didn’t totally get it. In my mind I was just picturing someone taking photos for an hour or something like that.

So for a while I kind of dropped the idea.

But the funny thing is, I kept coming back to it. Every once in a while I’d see another boudoir photo online and think, That looks so fun. I liked the idea of doing something a little bold and different for myself.

Eventually I reached out to Chicago Boudoir just to ask a few questions.

Talking to Liz helped a lot because she explained what the whole day actually looks like. It’s not just showing up and taking a few pictures. There’s hair and makeup, time to go through outfits, the photoshoot itself, and a lot of guidance during the session so you don’t have to know how to pose.

I decided to go ahead and book it.

The day of the shoot was when it really clicked for me.

I was there for several hours. Hair and makeup alone took a while, and it honestly felt like getting ready for a big event. The studio was beautiful, the lighting setup was really thoughtful, and Liz guided me through every single pose so I never felt awkward.

Boudoir before and after transformation

It definitely wasn’t just someone snapping a few pictures.

And then when I saw the photos later, I was kind of blown away. They looked so polished and flattering, but still like me.

That’s when I understood it better.

It’s not really just about the photos. It’s the whole experience of it. The way you feel during the shoot, the care that goes into it, and then having these images afterward that make you see yourself differently.

Looking back, I’m really glad I didn’t just look at the price and move on.

Because once I actually did it, I understood why people love the experience so much!
