Why Boudoir Photography Is a Radical Act of Empowerment: My Chat on Business as UNusual
Redefining Confidence Through Boudoir: My Conversation on Business as UNusual
When Aicila invited me to join her on Business as UNusual, I was thrilled. Not just to share my business story, but to explore how boudoir photography can transform the way women see themselves. With over 2,000 women photographed and features on TEDx and NPR, my studio has become a space where confidence, empowerment, and self-celebration thrive.
Boudoir as Radical Self-Care
Boudoir sessions are more than photos—they’re intentional acts of self-love. Women step into the studio often feeling nervous or uncertain, and leave seeing themselves in a whole new light. On the podcast, I shared how creating a safe, supportive environment allows women to embrace their bodies and their stories fully.
Empowerment vs. Objectification
Boudoir is sometimes misunderstood. On Business as UNusual, I explained how the difference lies in intention. Empowering photography focuses on the client’s experience, highlighting confidence and self-expression—not societal standards.
Transformation Through Photography
Some of the most powerful moments are when clients see themselves differently for the first time. From posture to expression, these images help women reclaim their confidence and tell their own stories. Transformation is the heart of what we do at Chicago Boudoir Photography.
Navigating Vulnerability
Being vulnerable in front of the camera isn’t easy. But it’s often when women lean into discomfort that true confidence emerges. I shared with Aicila how guiding clients through this process can be transformative—not just for their images, but for their everyday lives.
Building an Inclusive, Woman-Centered Business
Inclusivity has always been a core value of my studio. Every session is designed to make women feel safe, celebrated, and respected. No matter your age, size, race, gender identity, pronouns, or relationship status, you are not just welcome here—you are celebrated. Whether you’re here in the Chicago aread\ or elsewhere, finding a photographer who prioritizes empathy and safety is key.
Raising Teens and Challenging Body Norms
Running a body-positive business has influenced how I parent my two teenage daughters. Sharing these lessons on the podcast, I discussed how exposing young people to body-positive ideals can counter harmful societal messages and encourage confidence.
Advice for Solopreneurs in Unconventional Industries
Being a solopreneur comes with unique challenges. On the podcast, I encouraged aspiring founders to embrace their niche, trust themselves, and measure success by impact as much as profit. Bold ideas and unconventional practices can lead to meaningful, lasting success.
Giving Back: Community Initiatives
We also discussed initiatives like Domestic Violence Awareness Month and other ways my studio gives back to support women in our community. This October, I’m volunteering with WINGS and will be raising awareness with my audience about domestic violence—sharing local resources, ways to get involved, and a fundraising effort to directly support WINGS. A business rooted in compassion doesn’t just serve clients—it uplifts the entire community.
Boudoir photography is empowerment in action. It’s radical self-care, inclusion, and celebration of every woman’s story. Sharing this journey with Aicila on Business as UNusual was a reminder of why I do this work—and why it matters.
