Worried about if you can have a boudoir photoshoot during your period? The good news: YES! You absolutely can! At Chicago Boudoir Studio, we understand that your period doesn’t always follow your schedule — and that’s okay. Our 100% female-identifying staff know how frustrating that can be, but are fully prepared to provide period care and make sure your session is comfortable, confident, and fun!
Maybe a photoshoot during your period feels taboo –but hey, boudoir is a little taboo too. Your boudoir photoshoot should be about embracing your body and all it can do for you… including the natural process of menstruation. So, if you’re concerned about having your session while on your period, here are the 7 different ways we can/ will support you.
Period Care Products On-Site
A woman’s period care routine is incredibly personal. You deserve to have your preferences treated with respect. At the Chicago Boudoir Studio, we have a variety of disposable period products ready at all times. We have pads and tampons in a few sizes stocked in the dressing room bathroom. No need to ask for your preference in advance!
Of course, you are also welcome to bring your own period products to the studio. This could include something reusable like a Diva Cup or period disc. You could also bring in your favorite brand of disposable products. The choice is yours, always.
The Hydration Station
Tampons and pads might help with some period symptoms, but they can’t soothe bloating. Hydration can. This is true no matter where you are in your cycle!
Whether you’re on your period or not, we offer everyone who comes into the studio non-alcoholic drinks during their session. For the best period care possible, we recommend you sip on a cold bottled water or sparkling La Croix during your photoshoot.
Bloating Be Gone!
But what if water just doesn’t cut it? If you’re still noticing that your body feels a bit bloated compared to normal, there is still one more option. Every purchased image from Chicago Boudoir Photography is eligible for complimentary hand photo retouching.
If it feels right, you can ask our editing team to slim down areas that are a bit puffy or inflamed because of your cycle. You could also choose to embrace your body in flux and request absolutely zero retouching whatsoever. It’s up to you.
More Than Just Body Shaping
The photo editing team at Chicago Boudoir can do more than body shaping. If a tampon sting or pad wing is visible in any of your favorite shots, we can edit it out free of charge. That way, you can take advantage of whatever period care products make you feel most comfortable without worrying so much about aesthetics. Because, at the end of the day, your best boudoir look comes when you feel most relaxed.
Professional Makeup
Period hormones can take a toll on your skin. Even the days around your period can create stubborn acne. Rest easy, though. Our professional hair and makeup artists are prepared to conceal any blemish or bit of dry skin. Did we mention their services are complimentary with every purchased session fee?
Keeping it Clean
Boudoir isn’t dirty, so neither is our studio. Literally. We take hygiene very seriously at the Chicago Boudoir Studio. Everything from our set pieces to our red-bottom heels is cleaned regularly. It’s about safety, dignity, and luxury.
Again, this isn’t just period care. Boudoir requires vulnerability from everybody. Yes, that means “every body”. You deserve a clean, comfortable space to take your spicy photos!
Personalized Posing
Another thing you might want to consider is cramps. Managing pain is just basic period care. As you can imagine, some boudoir poses are easier for cramps than others. You might not know which poses will feel best on the day. That’s okay! Your boudoir photographer is the expert on posing. We’ll walk you through it.
At the same time, if something doesn’t feel good during your photoshoot, tell us. Your comfort is always a top priority at the studio.
