Ask a Boudoir Photographer: "What if I have a pixie cut? Will boudoir photos still look good?"
Boudoir Photography With Short Hair or a Pixie Cut
Question:
“Hi Chicago Boudoir, I have a question. I’ve been thinking about doing a boudoir photoshoot, but I have very short hair. I’ve had a pixie cut for years, and when I look at boudoir photos online most of the women seem to have long hair. Will the photos still look feminine or sexy with short hair?”
Answer from Chicago Boudoir:
This is actually a question we hear fairly often. A lot of women assume boudoir photography requires long, flowing hair because that’s what they tend to see online.
But the truth is, short hair photographs beautifully, and pixie cuts can look especially striking in boudoir images.
Short Hair Can Be Really Elegant
Pixie cuts often highlight the face, jawline, neck, and shoulders in a really beautiful way.
Because the hair is shorter, it naturally draws attention to your facial expressions and the lines of your body.
In fact, some boudoir photographers love working with short hair because it can give the images a slightly edgy, sophisticated feel.
You Don’t Need Long Hair to Look Feminine
A lot of people associate femininity with long hair, but confidence and femininity come from much more than that.
The way you pose, your expression, the lighting, and the styling of the photos all contribute to the overall feel of the photos. Whether your hair is long, short, curly, straight, or somewhere in between, beautiful boudoir images are absolutely possible.
Your hair is simply one part of the overall look.
Professional Hair and Makeup Still Enhances the Look
Even with shorter hair, professional styling can make a big difference.
During your session, your hair will be styled so it looks polished and camera ready. For pixie cuts, this often means adding texture, shaping the style, or creating a slightly more dramatic version of your everyday look.
The goal isn’t to change your hairstyle, but to elevate what you already have.
Boudoir Is About Celebrating Your Unique Look
One of the best things about boudoir photography is that there really isn’t one “look” you have to fit.
Every woman has different features, a different style, and a different personality. Those differences are part of what make the photos interesting and beautiful.
Your pixie cut doesn’t limit your boudoir session. In many cases, it becomes part of what makes the photos uniquely you.
You Might End Up Loving Your Short Hair Even More
Many women with pixie cuts are surprised by how much they love their photos afterward.
Seeing your short hair styled and photographed professionally can give you a completely new perspective on your look. It often highlights confidence and strength in a way women don’t expect.

Sabrina’s Story: “I Wasn’t Sure Boudoir Would Work With My Pixie Cut”
Before I booked my boudoir session, one of the things I kept thinking about was my hair.
I’ve had a pixie cut for years. I love it in everyday life, but when I would look at boudoir photos online, most of the women seemed to have long, flowing hair. You know the look… hair cascading over shoulders, big soft curls, that kind of thing.
So a small part of me kept wondering, Would boudoir even work with short hair?
I worried the photos might not look as feminine or soft. I even considered growing my hair out before booking, but realistically that would have taken a long time.
Eventually I decided to reach out to Chicago Boudoir and just ask about it.
Liz’s response made me laugh a little because she said short hair actually photographs beautifully. She explained that pixie cuts can look really striking in boudoir because they highlight the face, the neck, and the shoulders in a really elegant way.
That gave me enough confidence to go ahead and book.
The day of the shoot, the hair and makeup artist styled my pixie cut in a way that felt polished but still like me. Nothing over the top, just a slightly elevated version of my everyday look.
Once the photoshoot started, Liz guided me through every pose so I never had to wonder what to do. And something interesting happened pretty quickly… I completely forgot about worrying about my hair.
I was just having fun.
When I saw the photos later, I honestly loved how my short hair looked. It gave the photos a slightly edgy, confident feel that actually suited my personality really well.
Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t wait until my hair was longer.
Because it turns out boudoir isn’t about fitting one specific look.
It’s about showing up as yourself. And my pixie cut ended up being part of what made the photos feel uniquely me.
