Body Confidence and Business Growth: Speaking at an ALR Connections Networking Event

How Body Confidence Can Help Women Level Up in Business

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at a Body Confidence Workshop for a group of incredible women at an event hosted by ALR Connections and organized by Carly Ubersox in Evanston.

The event brought together local professionals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners for an afternoon of networking, connection, and personal growth. ALR Connections is a Chicagoland-based organization focused on helping small businesses grow while supporting women through career transitions, professional development, and meaningful community connections. Their mission of empowering women through authentic relationships made this workshop a perfect fit.

We gathered at The Fat Shallot in Evanston, a welcoming North Shore restaurant known for its casual atmosphere and community-focused event space. The setting created the perfect environment for open conversations and genuine connection.

Why Body Confidence Matters in Business

When people hear "body confidence," they often assume it's only about appearance.

But body confidence impacts so much more than how we look.

It affects how we show up in meetings. How we network. How we negotiate. How we promote ourselves and our businesses. How confidently we share our ideas and expertise.

As women, many of us spend years battling self-doubt, questioning whether we're good enough, experienced enough, attractive enough, young enough, or qualified enough. That inner critic doesn't stay at home—it follows us into our careers and businesses.

During the workshop, we explored how body confidence and self-worth directly influence professional success. When we stop focusing on our perceived flaws and start focusing on our strengths, we create space to lead, connect, and grow.

Lessons From "A Year of Body Confidence"

My workshop topic was inspired by my book, A Year of Body Confidence: 365 Days of Positive Affirmations & Empowering Actions for Women.

Together, we discussed practical strategies women can use to build confidence from the inside out, including:

  • Reframing negative self-talk

  • Celebrating accomplishments instead of minimizing them

  • Practicing self-compassion

  • Showing up before feeling "ready"

  • Taking up space with confidence and authenticity

One of the most rewarding parts of the event was hearing women share their own experiences and realizing how many of us face similar struggles, regardless of our age, profession, or stage of life.

Confidence Is a Skill

One of the biggest takeaways from the workshop was this:

Confidence is not something you're born with.

It's something you practice.

The women in the room weren't waiting until they felt perfectly confident before pursuing their goals. They were building businesses, changing careers, networking, and creating opportunities while continuing to work on their confidence every day.

That's where real growth happens.

Grateful for the Opportunity

I'm incredibly grateful to Carly Ubersox and the team at ALR Connections for inviting me to speak and for creating a space where women can learn from one another, build relationships, and support each other's success.

The conversations that happened after the workshop were just as meaningful as the presentation itself, and I left feeling inspired by the incredible women I had the chance to meet.

If your organization, networking group, or business is looking for a speaker on body confidence, self-worth, women's empowerment, or confidence-building strategies for professional growth, I'd love to connect.

Because when women believe in themselves, there's no limit to what they can accomplish.
