Don't Wait Until Your Body is "Perfect" for Your Boudoir Shoot

Whenever I introduce myself to anyone, I usually describe myself as a boudoir photographer. One of the most common reactions I get from women is “I’d love to do a boudoir shoot after I lose weight!” While I am totally on board with treating a boudoir shoot as a reward for hitting a fitness goal, I also think women default to the “…after I lose weight.” excuse far too often.

Sometimes, losing weight is really a necessary step to maintain good health. Losing weight can often be the natural result of a healthy diet or an exercise program. I’m all for this healthy attitude! Conversely, some people can make healthy changes and see little change to their weight (even though other health metrics have improved!) In short, weight isn’t always the best metric for health.

Sadly it’s not really health that is usually the motivator for weight loss. In a recent study, people were asked what traits or characteristics were seen as most valuable in women. Number one was “Physical Attractiveness”, which probably shocks no one. That only came in at #6 for men. So it’s clear that there are tremendous societal pressures for women to be beautiful to have value.

My pushback on this point isn’t to say that there is something inaccurate about that study. In fact, I am not surprised at all that physical attractiveness ranks so highly. However I would push back and say that in general people are more attractive than they think. I also believe that many more body types are beautiful than just “Marilyn Monroe”, “Twiggy” or “Jennifer Lopez”. However the one thing that all beautiful women have in common is a confidence that says “I don’t care if you think I’m attractive or not!”

So I welcome all body types to my studio! Every single woman that comes in for a shoot is floored by their gorgeous images. With some gentle coaching and help of lighting and photography techniques I can make you look like your best self. Try me.
